From Art Installation to MUJI Stay
MUJI BASE TESHIMA is housed in a 90-year-old traditional home, that was originally renovated for the 2010 Setouchi Triennale as both an installation and accommodation for staff running a local restaurant.
Now, it has been reimagined as MUJI BASE TESHIMA, with a carefully designed interior that embodies MUJI’s philosophy.
Japanese Aesthetics and "Mitate"
The interior design brand IDÉE has curated the space based on Japanese aesthetics and the concept of “mitate”—seeing new meaning in everyday objects. The interiors feature a selection of vintage Japanese furniture, modern designs, and artworks by Japanese artists. Tableware is handpicked from contemporary ceramicists working in Teshima and the surrounding Setouchi region.

This house, located in the elevated Inokujo settlement, was once an abandoned home. From the garden, you can take in a sweeping view of Mount Dan, which stands at the heart of the island, offering a deep connection to the changing seasons.
Living with Craftsmanship
The space is designed by the interior brand IDÉE, based on the theme of Japanese aesthetics nurtured through culture and history.
It is coordinated with carefully selected pieces: old Japanese items that have been lovingly passed down through generations, iconic examples of modern design, and works by artists and craftspeople who resonate with regional character and emerging talent.
Many of the tableware items provided during your stay have been selected from artists active mainly in the Setouchi region
