MUJI BASE OIKAWA is located in Yoro Gorge Onsenkyo, a hot spring resort area in Chiba Prefecture, and was reborn as a “Creative base for travelers to learn about and experience local life,” utilizing the former Yoro Gorge Elementary School, which was closed in 2013. In addition to accommodations, the facility is equipped with a kiosk and coworking space, and aims to be a place of learning where new idea is accumulated through daily interactions.
After closing in 2013 due to a decrease in the number of students, since May 2017, Ryohin Keikaku has been operating the school as a co-working space to create interaction with the local community and as a shared confectionery workshop to support small businesses. In October 2024, MUJI BASE OIKAWA was re-launched with the opening of an accommodation facilities to be closer to the community.
The area surrounding MUJI BASE OIKAWA is a hot spring resort located in Yoro Gorge, where mountain azaleas in spring and autumn leaves in fall are beautiful. Since mineral spring water gushed out of a well in 1914, the area has developed into a rare hot spring resort in Chiba Prefecture, and unique inns stand side by side. In addition, visitors can enjoy the local delicacies of crops and game dishes that take advantage of the rich natural environment, as well as handicrafts using bamboo, which is so plentiful that it is known as the "village of bamboo".
We offer accommodation plans that allow you to experience daily life in Oikawa.
MUJI amenities and a meal set using local seasonal ingredients (for a fee) are available.
The rental villa which is a renovated entire classroom. This room is also suitable for groups, camps, training programs, etc.
Divided into two guest rooms and kitchen, living room and bathroom are shared. These rooms can be used as a single room or rented out both for private use.
Our staff will take you on a tour of the former Oikawa Elementary School. The tour will include a talk about the history of the school and its connection with the local community.
Experience seasonal farming at the on-site Farm. You can learn about “Food and Agriculture” from the farm manager, and take home vegetables when they are ready to be harvested. Farmware and farming tools are available for rent.

A fire pit, BBQ table, and pizza oven are available for use in the courtyard. Firewood, charcoal, and other lighting equipment, as well as cooking skewers and pizza peels, are available for use.

We offer breakfast sets in cooperation with local restaurants. Bagels, bread, quiche, honey, soup, coffee, etc.
MUJI food products are available. Feel free to try our popular curries and seasonal recommendations.
Desks and stools from the arts and crafts room were used as dining sets, laboratory equipment, cooking utensils,
and musical instruments were used to remake lamps, and basketballs from the gymnasium were upcycled as an art piece.
These playful decorations provide a nostalgic experience and fun for both adults and children.

Rooms where you can stay are renovated from a former classroom. There are two Houses: House A with 141 ㎡ and House B with 36 ㎡ are rooms for smaller groups.

A co-working space that can be used on a drop-in basis, or as a café where you can bring in perchased items at the Kiosk.
On-site farm at the school. By signing up as a share farmer, you can learn about agriculture and enjoy harvesting while regularly commuting to the farm.

A laundry facility with dryers (extra fee), which can be used for your everyday laundry or larger items like bedding.

Xylophones, iron kotos, drums, and other instruments from elementary school days can be used freely in the music room. Visitors can also enjoy art using old instruments and music-related items.
The library selection is a combination of books left at the former Oikawa Elementary School and newly selected books. The library is newly established on the second floor of the symbolic oval-shaped multi-purpose room.
This is the large schoolyard in front of the school building. You can freely play running, catch, etc., just like when you were a child.
The courtyard is surrounded by the school building. It can be used as an eating space or for BBQ.
