MUJI BASE OIKAWA, located in the heart of Boso region of Chiba, is a revitalized facility transformed from the former Oikawa Elementary School, which closed in 2013. The space serves as both accommodation and a community hub where locals gather. Our goal is to foster meaningful exchanges between visitors and locals, creating a place where new insights and collective wisdom emerge.

Following the closure of the former Oikawa Elementary School in Otaki Town, Chiba, in 2013, MUJI (Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd.) has been operating the site since 2017. In October 2024, the facility was relaunched as a community-focused hub with accomordation.

Nestled in the Yoro Valley Onsen village, known for its hot springs, MUJI BASE OIKAWA offers seasonal beauty such as azaleas in spring and vivid autumn foliage. The region is rich in local delicacies based on agricultural and hunting traditions, and handcrafts made from its abundant bamboo groves.

Catering/Bento Box
Local catering services available from ¥3,000 per person for catering and ¥2,000 per person for bento boxes (minimum of 10 people). Weekday lunch only.
Interior & Art Coordination
The space has been beautifully designed by the interior brand "IDÉE."
Classroom desks and stools have been transformed into dining sets, while laboratory equipment, cooking tools, and musical instruments have been upcycled into unique lamps. Even basketballs from the old gymnasium have been turned into creative art pieces.
This playful yet nostalgic atmosphere creates a space where both adults and children can enjoy their time.

Coin Laundry
A laundry with dryers, perfect for everyday items or larger loads such as bedding (additional fee applies). *Guests can also use the complimentary washing machine available in their rooms.

Music Room
You are free to use instruments reminiscent of elementary school days, such as xylophones, glockenspiels, and drums. You can also enjoy artwork made from old instruments and music-related items.

Library
A unique collection of books combining those preserved from the former Oikawa Elementary School and newly curated selections. This library is newly established on the second floor of the iconic oval-shaped multipurpose room.

Schoolyard
A spacious schoolyard in front of the building where you can run around, play catch, and enjoy outdoor activities just like you did as a child.

Courtyard
A cozy courtyard surrounded by the school building. In the designated area, you can enjoy activities such as BBQs and pizza-making.
