Stay in a
100-Year-Old
Traditional Home
In 2019, a MUJI staff member stationed in Kamogawa met the owner of a vacant traditional home. Built over a century ago, the house was renovated by MUJI, blending traditional architectural charm with modern comfort.
Stay
Relax and reconnect with nature in a 100-year-old traditional Japanese home,
nestled in the gentle rhythms of the satoyama countryside.
A Traditional Home with Deep Local Roots
Located in an area long known for producing high-quality rice, the house was originally built by a family of local farmers. Now it offers both historical charm and modern comfort, while preserving the unique “ta-no-ji” floor plan common to traditional Japanese homes.
Spacious, Flexible Living Areas
The house features four large tatami rooms, ideal for group stays. The airy dining kitchen with high ceilings is perfect for cooking and gathering, while a quiet corner room serves as a study or a cozy sitting area.
Modern Comfort, Traditional Character
The home’s design maintains the spatial beauty of a Japanese house while adapting it to today’s lifestyle. The symbolic fusuma sliding doors feature a motif inspired by the region’s rain-fed terraced fields, and a sunken irori-style hearth table brings warmth and charm to the tatami room.
A Fully Equipped Kitchen for Cooking Together
Outfitted with MUJI kitchenware, the spacious island kitchen lets you enjoy preparing meals while chatting with family or friends.
Fresh Vegetables, Grown on Site
The large garden includes a working vegetable patch where you can harvest seasonal produce. Please note: harvest availability depends on the season and weather conditions.
